NOVEMBER AWARENESS MONTH
During the month of November, we will shed light on 3 distinct cancers, along with Alzheimer’s disease, and one of the most difficult positions anyone can be in: that of CAREGIVER.

CARCINOID CANCER

CARCINOID CANCER is represented by the black and white Zebra wreath. Carcinoid cancer is a type of slow-growing cancer that usually starts in the cells of the neuroendocrine system, which are found throughout the body and help control various bodily functions. These cancers often develop in the gastrointestinal tract (like the stomach, intestines), or in the lungs

CAREGIVER AWARENESS

CAREGIVER AWARENESS is represented by the lavender wreath. In simple terms, caregivers are individuals who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to aid and support to those in need, often the elderly, sick, or patients with disabilities. These extraordinary individuals possess a unique set of qualities that define their roles. Typically, these individuals are compassionate, patient, resilient and nurturing. Caregivers are unsung heroes with a vital role in improving the lives of those they care for.

LUNG CANCER

LUNG CANCER is represented by the white wreath. Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the USA and is responsible for 20% of all cancer related deaths. (In memory of my cousin Pam, who recently lost her battle with this dreaded disease).

PANCREATIC CANCER

PANCREATIC CANCER is represented by the purple wreath. There are no preventative screening tests for pancreatic cancer; therefore, it is difficult to catch in its early stages. While it is uncommon, pancreatic cancer ranks as the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the USA. This is because it is often not diagnosed until the disease is advanced.

ALZHEIMER DISEASE

ALZHEIMER DISEASE, which is also represented by the purple wreath, is a disorder caused by damage to nerve cells in the brain. Alzheimer’s is progressive, beginning with mild memory loss. It gradually leads to the inability to carry on conversations, carry out daily activities, or respond to the environment. Alzheimer’s is irreversible, the damage done to the brain cannot be undone. Caregivers are essential for Alzheimer patients.

(In memory of my husband who lost his battle with Alzheimer’s last year).
